Treatment or Protection Strategies
Intervet vaccines that are available:
Norvax Compact IPN
This monovalent, adjuvanted, injection vaccine, for salmonids, against infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN) is developed using recombinant DNA technology. The high and long-lasting protection that is obtained with this vaccine is due to the excellent antigenic properties of the rVP2 protein that is the key ingredient of this subunit vaccine. The rVP2 protein is the only IPNV component proven to be effective in laboratory as well as in extensive field trials in Norway.
The rVP2 antigen is the IPNV component successfully introduced in the world’s first effective viral fish vaccine, introduced in Norway in 1995. It was subsequently incorporated into Intervet’s latest “Compact” range of products.
The vaccine is recommended for salmonid juveniles from 35 grams and upwards.. Previous extensive field trials in Norway (where the rVP2 antigen was used within a multivalent vaccine) and recent field trials in Chile have proven the efficacy of this subunit antigen under field conditions and where fish have been exposed to natural challenges. Using this vaccine results in reduction in the risk of IPN and subsequent mortality.

Treatment
Once the fish are infected, no therapy can be given, as viral diseases are not curable with pharmaceutical (like antibiotics)
