Dedicated to Disease Research and Product Development for Aquatic Animal Health in the Asia-Pacific Region

Newest research and development centre

MSD Animal Health Innovation Ltd Singapore was built from scratch and started to operate in January 2000. The centre's main goal is to perform R&D to produce high quality aquatic animal health products and application strategies for the Asia-Pacific region. The centre is located at the Lim Chu Kang Agri-Bio Park in Singapore. The focus is on R&D to generate vaccines against bacterial and viral diseases for a wide range of warm-water fish and shellfish species. Development of effective antiparasitic and endocrine products is also undertaken. Close collaboration occurs with other Intervet centres, and leading universities and institutes.

State-of-the-art facilities

The centre is composed of 207 m2 of office space, 289 m2 of laboratories and 289 m2 of fish facilities. The laboratories include several functional units that perform disease diagnosis (bacterial, viral and parasitic), isolation and identification of pathogens, biochemical analysis, molecular biology, tissue culture, fermentation and vaccine formulation.

The fish facilities consist of a quarantine room and five experimental rooms. Each experimental room can be independently controlled for temperature and water salinity. There are a total of 67 separate fish tanks with volumes ranging from 50 to 1,300 L. Each tank can be operated either as a closed recirculation or flow-through system, allowing multiple treatment conditions to be tested simultaneously.

MSD Animal Health Innovation Ltd Singapore is fully committed to the development of the aquaculture industry in the Asia-Pacific region.
